Courses

Edgbaston Old Church runs various courses throughout the year for those interested in deepening their Christian faith and commitment, or exploring the Christian faith for the first time.  These include Alpha Courses, an annual Lent Course, Marriage Preparation, and Confirmation Classes, as well as occasional short courses on particular themes. Some of these are run jointly with our three ‘partner’ churches in the area (St George’s, Edgbaston; St Faith and St Laurence, Harborne, and St Peter’s, Harborne); others are specific to our own parish and congregation.

Confirmation Preparation 2010

Having hosted the ‘Edgborne Group’ Confirmation service here in June 2009, we have already received enquiries about the next Confirmation Course. This will begin after Easter 2010, in preparation for the Confirmation Service next summer. If you are interested, please get in touch with Alison Joyce (details are to be found on the contact page of this website).

Lent Course 2010

Our next Lent Group, which will be held on Tuesday evenings in St Monica’s, starting on 23rd February. By popular request [!] Alison Joyce will be leading a course on the subject of ‘Angels – and what to make of them!’. This will be based upon a series of retreat addresses that she gave for the Community Of St John the Divine in June 2009.

Marriage Preparation

Each year we host a Marriage Preparation Course, which we run jointly with the other Anglican Churches in the ‘Edgborne Group’ (St George’s, Edgbaston, St Peter’s, Harborne, and St Faith and St Laurence, Harborne). The course is open to any couples in the area who are contemplating marriage, preparing for marriage, or who have been married recently. Plans for a course in 2010 are now underway. More details to follow.

Bible Reading Fellowship Group

This is a group of congregation members who meet regularly throughout the year to share their reflections on the course of daily Bible readings they follow, using the ‘New Daylight’ Bible reading notes for guidance. New members are always welcome.

For further information about any current or forthcoming courses please contact the Priest-in-Charge.
