Music at Edgbaston Old Church
The Choir
The healthy musical tradition of Edgbaston Old Church is secure in the capable hands of a small, hard-working robed choir led by Director of Music the Revd Clifton G. Graham GRSM, FRCO, ARCM, who is also Anglican Chaplain of Birmingham City University.
New members are very welcome and rehearsals are efficient, fast and fun, each Thursday evening from 6.00 pm – 7.15 pm.
The Sunday 10.30 am Parish Communion service is the main musical responsibility for the choir, with weddings and special services as occasional extras.
Musical Activities
The musical life of the parish is also enhanced by a regular series of musical events and concerts. These include work with an exciting project for young string players called SQFS (‘String Quartets from Scratch’), the brain-child of Mary Cohen, a professional musician, teacher, and composer of international standing, and one of the many talented people who are part of the parish community. Amongst other activities, the young members of SQFS provide the music for our annual Crib Service on Christmas Eve. Mary also organises occasional musical and choral contributions from young members of the congregation for Parish Communion services.
Recent events held in the church include a superb and memorable concert given by the Arnold Singers of Rugby School, in support of our Organ Restoration Appeal and the charity Future Hope.
