The Organ
Edgbaston Old Church is privileged to possess a fine three-manual Hill, Norman and Beard organ, which in its present form dates from 1956, although it incorporates pipework and chests from the original Hill instrument installed by the church in the previous century. For detailed specifications see the “Anoraks' Section” below. If you would like more information about our organ please contact our Organist, David Griffiths, via our ‘Contacts us’ page.
Organ Restoration Appeal
Every cloud has a silver lining! In June 2011 thieves stole lead from the roof of our church in the area immediately above the organ console, just prior to a period of torrential rain. The results were catastrophic, rendering the console unusable, and only a limited insurance claim was possible, since the damage was the result of a lead theft. However, as it happens, we were already well advanced with our organ restoration appeal, which meant that we had the money in place to pay for the necessary repairs to the console (which constituted 70% of the work for which we were fundraising). Hence, this has given us the impetus to begin work on the first (and main) phase of the organ restoration: as well as completely restoring the console, we are taking this opportunity to relocate it to the north side of the chancel (which is its natural home, as organists who have played our instrument have been observing for decades). We shall also be able to proceed with refurbishing the first area of pipework that needs attention.
We are currently awaiting faculty permission to proceed with this stage of the restoration, but we are hopeful that the work will be able to proceed very soon. In the meantime, very many thanks to all of you who have helped to support our fundraising ventures. There is still more to do, however, and further donations are always welcome. We remain committed to ensuring that future generations are blessed with the same quality of musical provision that we have enjoyed, thanks to the vision and generosity of parishioners of previous years.
If you are able to help us by making a donation (made out to ‘Edgbaston Old Church Organ Account’), your generosity will be warmly appreciated. If you are a UK tax payer, you can increase the size of your gift without any further cost to yourself by gift-aiding your offering (please print and fill out this form). Donations can be sent to our Treasurer c/o the following address:
