Parish & community
Edgbaston Old Church is set in the heart of a fascinating area of Birmingham, and located less than a mile from the city centre.
Our parish is a place of great contrasts: alongside some of the finest historic houses in Birmingham there are pockets of considerable social deprivation. Our ministry extends to all who live within our borders, and we greatly value the fact that the cultural and ethnic diversity of our parish is reflected within our worshipping congregation. Our church is firmly rooted within its community: the majority of our regular members live within the parish boundaries, although some people travel considerable distances to worship with us.
Some of the most significant institutions within this part of the city are located within our parish: we are the parish church of the University of Birmingham, and regularly host services of the University Anglican Society (‘AngSoc’) during term time. There are seven schools within the parish, including Elmhurst School for Dance, the feeder school for Birmingham Royal Ballet, with which we enjoy a close association; there are, in addition, four hospitals, and a theological college (The Queen’s Foundation for Ecumenical Theological Education).
We are committed to following Christ in every aspect of our daily lives, as we strive to become a community where all can discover something of the grace and transforming love of God.
